The Aftermath

The kids and I were on our way to our little informal mom's group Thursday when we got into a wreck. I was trying to stop at a stop sign, but the ice beneath my tires had a different idea. The car that hit us was going at least 40 and is now totalled. I got hit on the drivers side tire and front end. We spun around and narrowly missed hitting a telephone pole. I hit the door pretty hard with my head, shoulder and leg (you should see the bruises- they are LOVELY). I turned to see the kids and they were smiling. Jack said "what was THAT!". Liv just wanted to go play at Katrina's house :)
The guy that hit us was all of 19, with fiery red hair, and scared to death. This was his first wreck, and he was very nice to us even though he was obviously shaken up. He told me that he paid $175 for his car and that it wasn't running right and he was going to take it to the junkyard anyway since he had another car. He was very concerned about making sure that the kids and I were OK. This may have had something to do with the fact that I was crying...
Luckily, I was able to call my friend Stacy who was already at our mom's group destination which was 1/2 mile down the road. She hopped in her car and came to get the kids. While she was on the way, I tried in vain to get the car seats out. Stupid car seats are soooo hard to get out, but they did save my kids from any injury so I guess I love them ;) Our friend Kelly came up to the stop sign just at Stacy got there and between the 2 of them, they got the kids to Katrina's and helped keep me some what calm.
It took forever to deal with the accident report and the tow trucks, and when it was all done I went to Katrina's to find my kids happy and running around playing without a care in the world. I love that I have friends that take such good care of my kids, and me! Thanks girls!
Scott came to pick me up and take me to get checked in the ER while Stacy took my kids and her kids back to my house for naps. The ER doc checked me out and said that I'm not broken, just banged up pretty good. I have a bruise on my thigh that's the size of a softball, hard as a rock, and several shades of pretty. Both of my wrists are sore from gripping the steering wheel. My shoulder is bruised and very sore, and my head has been throbbing ever since the accident. I have a nice bump up there too, but hey, I've got a hard head. Ask my husband. Or my parents. And I'm sure my sister would agree ;)
Scott's drama club had a performance that night and he really needed to get back to school, so my Gee Gew (my grandma) came to the ER to take me home. My mom came to the house after school and watched the kids, made dinner, washed the dishes and did some laundry while I took pain pills and drooled. All right, I didn't drool, but I was definitely loopy! My dad came over with a stuffed teddy bear for me, like he used to do when I was little and had an owie. Liv has her eye on it already ;) The kids and I spent the rest of the evening watching Harry Potter and eating popcorn. The kids have been great. They are being super sweet to me and giving me kisses to make my owies better. I have good kids. I like that :)
A big thanks to ALL the MANY people who cared for me and the kids. It's great to know that I have such great people in my life who are happy to help when we need it! Love you all!
This morning I'm feeling pretty bad. Stiff, sore, achy and ditzy. I feel slow, and stupid, and I have a limp! And today is Jack's first parent -teacher conference.
I hope I don't drool...
too much.
