Bringing hope to the hopeless, the Day One Rule:
It has come to my attention that both of my kiddos seem to have a day one rule. As in "day one sucks".
Example: When we took Jack's bottle away for good at 11ish months, he would take the sippy cup and launch it across the room. That first day he drank maybe 13 ounces and walked around with a surly growl most of the day. Day 2- everything was fine and dandy and the sippy was his best friend.
Ditto with taking the paci away. It was SOO sad to hear him say "mamma, paci, night-night!" (at 15 months) over and over that first nap time. Day 2- it was like he'd never had one before.
Yesterday we not only started to give Livie whole milk (no reactions BTW!), we took the option of a bottle completely away. Day one: She would take a few polite sips and then hand it back to me (as in "thanks, but this isn't what I wanted..."). She drank maybe 16 ounces over the course of the day, was clingy and grumpy, and launched that sippy cup several times (though she did greatly increase her solid food intake!). I swear that girl already throws full blown tantrums...the jr high years are going to be soo fun...I can see it now... Anyway, Day 2- she has been nothing but goodness and light. Smiley, willingly takes the cup and tilts her little head back to get it all, doesn't care if the milk is warm or cold, goes down for naps with a smile...
Day 2 rocks. Day one, well, sucks.
